Our vision is that everyone in the trucking industry gets home safe, every day.
The goal of TruckSafe is to promote the development of the trucking industry in New Zealand by continually improving road and industry safety, through the development and application of appropriate industry and business standards and solutions.
Strategy
TruckSafe is committed to pursuing this goal through the promotion and application of appropriate industry standards through a safety management systems approach. An independent Governance Board will guide TruckSafe.
The TruckSafe safety management systems must, as a minimum, provide the following core components and major risk elements relating to the Health and Safety at Work Act, the Land Transport Act, and the Chain of Responsibility for all trucking businesses:

The Transport Well New Zealand | Kawe Pai Aotearoa Charitable Trust Governance Board promotes the development of a safe trucking industry in New Zealand through the TruckSafe Safety Management System Programmes as a value adding tool which:
Delivers demonstrable benefits to road transport operators, customers, Government, and the community
Maintains integrity of the trucking industry in New Zealand by ensuring organisations and individuals comply with its SMS's
Acknowledges the role of Government and seeks to work with appropriate Government agencies to improve compliance with the applicable SMS and the law
Assist organisations and individuals to meet their duty of care, HSWA, LTA, and Chain of Responsibility obligations
Incorporates key elements, which enable organisations and individuals to operate safely and with minimum risk to staff and the community
Has the capacity to incorporate additional elements, including the ability to meet the requirements of different market segments.
To ensure that the elements set, and the certification to the TruckSafe SMS Programme operate through effective, independent and arms-length administration, under the overall guidance of the Governance Board, there shall be bodies responsible for:
the certification of organisations and owner-drivers
recommending action concerning on road complaints and offences
providing an appeals avenue for decisions regarding complaints, sanctions, termination or suspension of membership or certification.
The TruckSafe Directors
The TruckSafe Directors are responsible for:
Developing the elements of the TruckSafe SMS's as well as other standards as appropriate
Setting Audit standards and guidelines
Developing and approving the business rules and sanctions model
Overseeing the the audit approval and certification of organisations and individuals that recommends actions concerning on road complaints and offences, and the handling of appeals about decisions regarding complaints, sanctions, termination or suspension of membership or certification.
Promoting TruckSafe to the trucking industry, clients, the community and Government
Undertaking wide consultation with stakeholders on the development of elements, the application of the TruckSafe SMS Programmes, and on developing synergies with other accreditation systems where applicable.
Reviewing and approving applications for (re)certification of organisations and individuals
Reviewing and approving audit reports undertaken of an organisations’s or individual's systems
Ensuring the auditing of organisations and individuals is consistent, fair, equitable and independent, provides due process for appeals against decisions, and maintains the integrity of TruckSafe
Assist in the reviewing of policy and principles of the TruckSafe Programme to maintain and enhance the rigor and credibility of the programme.

David Boyce - Governance Board Member
Dave has over 45 years’ experience in the transport industry, from working as an owner-driver through to operating a fleet.
He is a Director of TruckSafe New Zealand, a Trustee of Transport Well New Zealand | Kawe Pai Aotearoa Charitable Trust, and the current CEO of the NZ Trucking Association.
Dave was honoured to receive the Australasian Fleet Champions Outstanding Commitment to Road Safety Award in 2023.
Carol McGeady - Governance Board Member
Carol is an innovator, leading the NZ Trucking Association’s health, safety, and well-being initiatives. She has a strong background in business management and marketing.
Carol is a Director of TruckSafe New Zealand, a Trustee of Transport Well New Zealand | Kawe Pai Aotearoa Charitable Trust, and the current COO of the NZ Trucking Association.
Ken Winsloe - Governance Board Member
Ken was the General Manager at CORDE Ltd before retiring in July 2024. He brings a wealth of industry experience and health & safety expertise.
Ken is a Director of TruckSafe New Zealand, a Trustee of Transport Well New Zealand | Kawe Pai Aotearoa Charitable Trust, and the current President of the NZ Trucking Association.
Paul Fellows - Governance Board Member
Paul has been involved in road transport for the last 40 years, starting in the family waste disposal business as a garbage collector, moving into management and ultimately forming, together with his wife Jenny, Fellows Bulk Transport which has been operating successfully from its Deniliquin base for 25 years.
Paul is passionate about safety and professionalism within the industry, with Fellows Bulk being awarded the John Kelly Memorial Award.
Along with chairing Trucksafe Australia Paul is also the Chair of NatRoad. His mantra is that everyone deserves to go to work and come home safely to their family.
